The Frontier Project is a consultancy, working with both businesses and individuals. We design programs that help bring ideas to life and reposition clients to more advantageous positions. We're always looking for good ideas, provocative thinking and great experiences. This is our scrapbook. |
Watch NYCEDC’s video on how Brooklynite and Green-Eco evangelist Anselm Doering founded and took EcoLogic Solutions from his apartment, to the Varick St incubator, to the Brooklyn Navy Yards as a thriving business. Discover how Anselm made it here in New York City.
Aside from the fact that we just love stories like this, it validates the importance of the business incubator. Good ideas need real-world places to help them move from paper to product.
There’s a new book out about the development NYC’s incredible High Line Park, a project borne out of a community board meeting, driven by two men who didn’t have any experience in parks and recreation.
from Cool Hunting: “The road to creating one of New York’s most beloved parks was not unlike the unruly terrain that Friends of the High Line co-founders Joshua David and Robert Hammond were determined to transform. Stretching from the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, the mile-and-a-half-long elevated park represents the extraordinary rescue of an abandoned, overgrown eyesore by two inexperienced but dedicated individuals, and the rally of strong community involvement. “
Some gorgeous artwork here, and a fantastic way to learn more about NYC - whether you are a resident, or just plan to visit the city.

New York’s New Littles
Throughout June, the Brian Lehrer Show was discussing and exploring “The New Littles” of New York City, “areas of ethnic concentration you may not know about or are changing quickly.” The show gathered data and mapped it.In conclusion, they asked local artists and illustrators to create maps of these new neighborhoods. “The response was incredible, full of talent, inventiveness and community spirit.” Here are 18 submissions.
At top is “New Littles” by Freecell: Lauren Crahan, John Hartmann, and Jacqueline Lavin. View it large here.

Last week we attended the 99%, a conference produced and hosted by creative community Behance. It was chock full of designers, creative directors, and business strategists all interested in getting ideas out of the box and into the world - the art of execution. Chris Dannen from The Atlantic wrote a nice recap that captures the essence of the two day event.
From April 11-30, The Institute for Urban Design and Project for Public Spaces is asking New Yorkers to share ideas about how to build a better New York City. The interactive map (above) displays ideas by category. We like the way that sharing ideas in a public forum like this one can bring a community together and spark some pretty cool projects.
In September, the organizers will reveal the proposals for design at Urban Design Week in NYC.

Big Wheel vs. The Bus: We think that this is pretty funny, and also pretty informative. NYC comedian Mark Malkoff takes on the MTA by proving that he can move through the city faster on a big wheel than by taking the bus. Watch to see what happens.
The point? Perhaps if there was less congestion in the city [read: people in their own cars], the bus would be able to move faster. Read more about the race at GOOD.
